Janice Loraine Pittman, 1939 - 2012
Born September 8, 1939 in Cloudcroft, New Mexico to Irene and Hugh Pittman, she moved with her family to the South Bay in the 1940s. There she married her husband, Edward Roger Fiddler on September 24, 1960 and had two sons, David and Steven.
Janice worked for the Douglas Corporation, the Filon Company, and Macys following her graduation from Mira Costa High School and El Camino College. She completed her career as the manager of the Acute Observation Unit at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. A long standing member of the Journey of Faith Church (Formerly Community Baptist) of Manhattan Beach, she served in numerous ministries that included Sunday school, choir, nursery, AWANA, LAF Group, and the Emergency Response Group.
She also served as secretary for the Legacy Bible Study Group, whose friendships she cherished, and made frequent visits to the Hawaiian Island with them. Janice had many interests and hobbies, and enjoyed listening to Country and Western and Rock and Roll music, cheering on the Dodgers, simply watching the surf along the Esplanade, and visiting LAX as the airplanes arrived and departed Los Angeles.
She traveled frequently back to Cloudcroft to visit her family who owned a bowling alley and mountain cabin rental company. She made many beautiful afghans, loved to cook, work crossword puzzles, and putter in her rose garden. Janice was a sensitive, loving, caring, and compassionate person who always looked for ways to help her friends and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor, especially when facing difficult situations or events. She never tired of encouraging and visiting her family each of who were very dear to her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., NY, NY 10001.
A memorial praise service for Janice will be held on November 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Journey of Faith Church, 1243 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
